‘Kimmy Schmidt’ Producer Speaks Out on Fredric Brandt’s Shocking Suicide, Plus More Celebs React
Tina Fey's husband, Jeff Richmond, an executive producer of the Netflix series “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” has spoken out on the death of celebrity dermatologist Fredric Brandt, describing it as "very sad" to Daily Mail Online.
The outlet reported Dr. Brandt was “devastated” by the comparison to him of Martin Short's eccentric character on the hit Netflix show.
The character in question, Dr. Franff, has blonde hair and is an exaggeration of Brandt's own appearance. Although Dr. Brandt had been upset about the comparisons and was "definitely hurt," the show was not the cause of his death, according to a People magazine source.
The 65-year-old Brandt was found dead in his Miami home on April 5 in an apparent suicide by hanging. Miami Fire Rescue responded the scene at approximately 9:17 a.m. and pronounced the doctor deceased, according to police reports.
The doctor to the stars made many television appearances on talk shows over the year, and had lots of longtime celebrity friends, including Kelly Ripa and Joy Behar.
"Dr. Brandt was one of the sweetest, nicest, most generous people I have had the good fortune to meet & work with,” Behar tweeted on Monday. "He will be sorely missed."
