Zac Efron Attacked on Skid Row: His 'Bodyguard' Speaks Out About Crazy Night
The supposed bodyguard who was with Zac Efron near L.A.'s dangerous Skid Row on Saturday night is speaking out about their run-in with a group of angry transients.
The man, who preferred to remain anonymous, told TMZ that he and Zac were “cruising” around L.A. and heading for a restaurant in Little Tokyo at 12:30 AM Sunday when they ran out of gas near Skid Row.
Zac told cops that while they were waiting for a tow, they threw a bottle out the window and it angered a group of homeless people. When they attacked the bodyguard, Zac got out to help, and was punched in the face.
The bodyguard tells a slightly different version, saying that transients attacked him with a spear-like shank, stabbing him in the face, stomach and chest.
Zac, 26, came to his rescue and used a vodka bottle to fend them off. The “bodyguard” says the “Neighbors” star saved his life.
TMZ ran a check on the bodyguard and says he has a criminal record for drugs and violence.
The LAPD has not named Efron in the incident, but did confirm they were flagged down near Skid Row by a third party around 2:25 AM Sunday to help with a stranded vehicle. The cops acknowledged there was evidence of an altercation at the scene.
TMZ says the incident was considered mutual combat, and no arrests were made.
Efron reportedly spent two stints in rehab for cocaine use in 2013. He also suffered a broken jaw in November, which he blamed on slipping and falling in his home.
Zac and co-star Seth Rogen were just at the SXSW Festival earlier this month to promote "Neighbors." Efron shared pics from the experience on his WhoSay account.
