Backstage at Golden Globes: Leo DiCapiro with His Mom, Cate Blanchett Thanks Woody Allen
“Extra’s” Jerry Penacoli was backstage at the 2014 Golden Globes with all the winners, including Leonard DiCaprio and Cate Blanchett.
DiCaprio picked up the Globe for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for his stunning performance in "The Wolf of Wall Street," and was joined backstage by his mother, Blonde Irmelin.
Leo paid tribute to her, saying, “She’s the only reason I’m up there. I wouldn’t be doing any of this if she didn’t take me to auditions.”
As for what he’s doing next, DiCaprio said he has nothing planned. “I have nothing to do right now. I’m probably going to do some sort of environmental work, do an environmental documentary of some kind. I’ve yet to find a project I’m this passionate about.”
Cate Blanchett won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama for her turn in the Woody Allen film “Blue Jasmine.”
She told Penacoli how grateful she is to the filmmaker, who was this year’s Cecil B. DeMille recipient. “It’s a shame, you know, Woody never shows up to these things, and it was so wonderful. Diane Keaton’s speech to him tonight summed it all up. His long body of work, the extraordinary roles he has written for women… Woody single-handedly has written some of the most extraordinary parts for women and handed them over. I’m the lucky girl that got this one.”
Blanchett added, “Ninety-seven percent of it is in the direction. The thing with Woody, he doesn’t cut around performances. He shoots very few setups and it lives or dies between the chemistry between the actors.”
