Musician Jason Molina Dead at 39
Singer-songwriter Jason Molina died at his Indianapolis home on Saturday, according to his record label. He was 39.
The Marion County coroner confirmed the musician's death to the Associated Press, and his label, Secretly Canadian, noted “natural causes” were to blame.
The Ohio native recorded more than 12 albums between 1997 and 2009 under his name and the names "Songs: Ohia" and "Magnolia Electric Co."
Secretly Canadian posted a tribute to the singer on their website, describing him as the “cornerstone” of the organization and “a world class musician, songwriter & recording artist. He was also a beloved friend.”
The statement continued, “We're going to miss Jason. He was generous. He was a one of a kind. And he had a voice unlike any other.”
In 2011, the label revealed that Jason had spent the last two years “in and out of rehab facilities and hospitals in England, Chicago, Indianapolis and New Orleans” and asked fans to donate money to a medical fund to help pay for his care.
