Mary J. Blige Honored at Essence's Black Women in Music Event
Superstar songstress Mary J. Blige was the guest of honor at Essence's Black Women in Music event in West Hollywood Wednesday night.
Music mogul L.A. Reid presented Blige with a statue while stars including Taraji P. Henson, Ludacris, Joy Bryant and Gabrielle Union applauded from the audience.
"Thank you so much for supporting me from the day I stepped foot into the music industry," Blige told the crowd.
"It really means something to me to have Maya Angelou speak on my behalf," she said after viewing Angelou's video segment. "It also means a lot to have Oprah on my speed dial!"
Essence selected Blige for her accomplishments as a singer, songwriter and actress. She is also the co-founder of the non-profit organization Foundation for the Advancement of Women Now.
