The Boys are Back on 'Dancing with the Stars'
Testosterone was in the air for the premiere of "Dancing with the Stars" season 9! The male contestants kicked off the first of the three-night premiere event. The eight stars performed two times, including a relay dance.
Pop star Aaron Carter and partner Karina Smirnoff led the pack of performers with a total score of 22 out of 30 points for their Cha Cha Cha. Judges Len Goodman and Carrie Ann Inaba said the 21-year-old is full of potential but his "funky" footwork stood out. They later earned 10 points for their Viennese Waltz relay dance.
Mixed martial artist Chuck Liddell and Anna Trebunskaya performed the foxtrot -- and Anna said "The Iceman" needs to learn how to smile so he doesn't frighten the audience. Len said the dance was much better than he thought it was going to be, but the tough Chuck needs to get in touch with his feminine side. The couple scored a 16 and a 6 for their Salsa relay dance.
"Iron Chef America" Chairman Mark Dacascos and Lacey Schwimmer rocked the Cha Cha Cha to "Kung Fu Fighting" with sexed-up martial arts moves. Carrie Ann recognized Dacascos' flexibility but Len and fellow judge Bruno Tonioli weren't crazy about the performance. The pair received 7s across the board for a total of 21. Mark and Lacey scored 8 points for their Viennese Waltz relay dance.
Actor/comedian Ashley Hamilton and Edyta Śliwińska took on the foxtrot. Bruno commented about the lack of showmanship and Carrie Ann said the two need to stand out and define themselves. The twosome earned a weak 15 and a rough 4 points for their Salsa relay dance.
The crowd loved showbiz legend Donny Osmond and Kym Johnson. The couple tackled the foxtrot to "All That Jazz" with shimmies and strong stage presence. Bruno said Donny can "play an audience," but his shoulders were bad. Goodman complained about too much "razzmatazz." Former contestant Marie Osmond cheered-on her big brother from the audience alongside Jermaine Jackson. Donny and Kym scored a total of 20 and a strong 10 for the Salsa relay dance.
Professional snowboarder Louie Vito and Chelsie Hightower performed the foxtrot, but his smile might be stronger than his dance moves. Carrie Ann said she was surprised by their dance, but she could tell he'd never danced before. Bruno said the performance was "so cute" and was like watching a "dancing hobbit." The couple earned a 19 and 8 points for their Salsa relay dance.
Former NFL star Michael Irvin and partner Anna Demidova definitely had stage presence with their Cha Cha Cha -- and the Super Bowl champ had a blast! Bruno says the footwork, timing and content were off. The two earned the lowest score of the night with a total of 13, but didn't give up and scored 6 for their Viennese Waltz relay dance.
Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay and Cheryl Burke showed their wild side with a Cha Cha Cha. Bruno joked that Tom is crazier than former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and Carrie Ann said she was impressed that he's light on his feet. They scored 16 and a lousy 4 points for their Viennese Waltz relay dance.
The female contestants hit the dance floor on Tuesday for the second night of the "Dancing with the Stars" premiere. Two dancers will be sent home on Wednesday's show.
