Danny Gokey: 'Idol's' New 'Hero'
The journey to become the next "American Idol" just got a lot brighter for Danny Gokey, when judges dubbed him the hero of the semi-finalists last night after his heartfelt rendition of the Mariah Carey tune, "Hero."
Gokey, a church music director who recently lost his wife, wowed the judges after a string of performances that failed to impress the panel. "The redeemer of the night right here, Danny Gokey!" Randy Jackson exclaimed, "That was blazing hot!" Judge Kara DioGuardi added, "You are the hero, man. You give us all hope. You were great."
Tatiana Del Toro managed to please Kara, Paula, Randy and Simon with "Saving All My Love for You," but the panel warned her about becoming a diva. Simon called her "a complete and utter drama queen... desperate to be famous," while Paula remarked that she was the most talked-about contestant on the show, but not in a good way.
The judges were less than impressed with Casey Carlson, the other bikini girl whose rendition of the Police's "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic" didn't strike any of the right chords -- and sparked an impromptu song from the judges, titled "Everything About That Was Wrong." Ouch.
Who will sing their way to victory and who will fail miserably at the microphone? "American Idol" continues tonight on FOX!
