On Wednesday, “Extra's” Mario Lopez caught up with Arnold at his National After-School Summit at USC. Arnold doesn't mind his tensions with our current president, telling Mario, “Look, as far as I'm concerned, it didn't bother me at all. The only thing that bothers me is to say, doesn't he have anything more important things to do? But other than that, I don't take it personal; it gives me an opportunity to fire back.”
“We have been having a good time with this whole thing. He has been talking about my ratings, then I can talk about his ratings — which is the lowest of every president in modern history,” he went on. "It gives me a chance when he talks about the environment, I can fire back and say, 'Are you really sure about this? Do you want to go and bring coal mines back to the coal industry? This industry's dying. Are you gonna bring back pagers… or buggies and horses…?' It's just crazy.”
Now Arnold is fighting to help kids as the President threatens to eliminate funding for after-school programs. He emphasized, “I didn't have an organized after-school program because my mother was home in the afternoon; she didn't work outside the home, she worked all day long in the home. There was someone there who said, 'Do your homework or you can't get out of the house.' When I saw in America that so many kids don't have that, they don't have the adult supervision in the afternoon after they're finished with school, instead of complaining about it, let's do something about it. I started organizing in Los Angeles a program, and now we're up to 48 different cities in the United States providing after-school programs for 74,000 kids."
Arnold does have one unifying observation about President Trump: “If he is successful, we are all going to be successful.”
Asked about rumors the former Governor of California may run for office again, Arnold said, “I have no interest in running for anything.”
