'M*A*S*H' Actor William Christopher Dead at 84
William Christopher, known to audiences worldwide as Father Mulcahy on the long-running TV series "MASH" (1972-1983) and its sequel "After MASH" (1983-1985), died early in the day on New Year's Eve, according to his agent.
TMZ reports the actor died of non-lung, small-cell carcinoma.
Along with his performance as the kind-faced chaplain, Christopher is remembered as Private Lester Hummel on "Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C." (1965-1968) and for many TV guest appearances.
Christopher is survived by his wife, Barbara, and their sons John and Ned. Ned has autism, which led Christopher to devote time to the National Autistic Society. He and his wife published the book "Mixed Blessings" in 1985 about raising a child with the condition.
Wayne Rogers, known as Trapper John McIntyre on "MASH," died last New Year's Eve at 82.
