Taylor Swift Speaks Out After Winning Groping Case
Singer Taylor Swift just won the groping trial involving DJ David Mueller!
The jury found in favor of Taylor, who was countersuing Mueller for assault, battery and a symbolic $1.
The case revolves around a 2013 meet-and-greet in Denver. Taylor alleged that Mueller grabbed her bare buttocks under her skirt during a photo op, which he denied. Days after the alleged incident, Mueller was fired from his on-air gig at KYGO radio station.
He went on to sue Taylor for defamation and $3 million in damages; Swift countersued.
On Friday, U.S. District Judge William Martinez threw out Mueller's case against Swift, arguing that there was no proof Taylor's accusations cost him his job or that she set out to have him fired.
Today, in addition to finding in favor of Taylor, the jury also found that her mother Andrea Swift and radio promotions director Frank Bell were not liable for Mueller's firing.
After the decision was announced, Swift released a statement, saying, "I want to thank Judge William J. Martinez and the jury for their careful consideration, my attorneys Doug Baldridge, Danielle Foley, Jay Schaudies and Katie Wright for fighting for me and anyone who feels silenced by a sexual assault, and especially anyone who offered their support throughout this four-year ordeal and two-year long trial process.”
She continued, “I acknowledge the privilege that I benefit from in life, in society and in my ability to shoulder the enormous cost of defending myself in a trial like this. My hope is to help those whose voices should also be heard. Therefore, I will be making donations in the near future to multiple organizations that help sexual assault victims defend themselves."
