Shaq Remembers His Friendship with Kobe Bryant
"Extra's" Jenn Lahmers was with former L.A. Laker Shaquille O'Neal as he honored his close friend and former teammate Kobe Bryant Friday at Shaq's Fun House, his Super Bowl event.
Shaq told Jenn it was important to continue with the event in the wake of the tragedy as a way to help everyone affected by the helicopter crash that killed Kobe, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, and seven others. "The event has been planned... We have to move on, but I want to let everybody know that the people who lost their lives, everybody is on my mind... So all the proceeds are going to go to the families. We lost nine people. Seven of the people — very important — their names don't get mentioned a lot, so I want to make sure people remember them also.”
Remembering Kobe, Shaq said, "Always remember him... We're forever linked. You think of Shaq when it comes to basketball, you got to think about Kobe, and vice versa."
Adding, "I just wish we were here to joke and argue, push and compete. Miss those times."
Opening up about the conversation his son had with Kobe the morning before the accident, Shaq said, "He always took care of my kids, I always took care of his kids."
Shaq shared of their relationship, "In the locker room, you got two guys competing for the same thing, you're going to bump heads. People get it confused... It ain't about that. You have to have respect."
