Frances McDormand’s Oscar Stolen at After-Party – Alleged Thief Arrested!
“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” actress Frances McDormand almost went home without her Oscar last night!
According to USA Today, Frances was in the process of having her Best Actress trophy engraved when it was snatched. She was reportedly spotted crying after losing the statuette.
The New York Times' Cara Buckley tweeted a pic of the alleged suspect, writing, “Security at the Governors Ball are looking for this guy, who grabbed Frances McDormand's Oscar and ran out with it. Wolfgang Puck's photographer stopped him, got the Oscar back, and the guy disappeared back into the ball. Apparently Frances has said to let him go.”
The LAPD told People magazine that the man was later arrested for the theft.
The man has been identified as Terry Bryant Djmatari, who even posted a video of himself with the Oscar on Facebook. He captioned it, “My Oscar baby.” Watch.

Frances' rep confirmed that Frances got her Oscar back, writing, “Fran and Oscar are happily reunited and are enjoying an In-N-Out burger together.”
Earlier in the night, Frances made a newsworthy acceptance speech, inviting all of her fellow female nominees to stand. She said, “If I may be so honored to have all the female nominees in every category stand with me in this room tonight, the actors — Meryl, if you do it, everybody else will, c'mon — the filmmakers, the producers, the directors, the writers, the cinematographer, the composers, the songwriters, the designers. C'mon! Okay, look around, everybody. Look around, ladies and gentlemen, because we all have stories to tell and projects we need financed. Don't talk to us about it at the parties tonight. Invite us into your office in a couple days, or you can come to ours, whatever suits you best, and we'll tell you all about them.”
She wrapped up her speech by saying, “I have two words to leave with you tonight, ladies and gentlemen: 'Inclusion rider.'"
The concept of an inclusion rider was first proposed by Stacy Smith in a 2016 TED talk. It is a rider an actor can insist be inserted into their contract that would require diversity in a project's cast and crew.
