Eddie Murphy Made Tracy Morgan Laugh After He Woke Up from His Coma Last Year
On Sunday, "Extra's" AJ Calloway caught up with Tracy Morgan in Washington D.C. after the comic hosted "Saturday Night Live" this weekend.
Tracy was in D.C. to help honor Eddie Murphy, who accepted the Kennedy Center's prestigious Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.
Eddie is one of many people who showed love for Morgan after the car crash that left his fellow "SNL" veteran with a traumatic brain injury. Morgan said, "I spoke to Eddie when I came out the coma. Eddie was the first one to make me laugh."
The affection is obviously mutual between Morgan and Murphy. Eddie gushed at the ceremony, "Tracy Morgan! Tracy even came down, too! Yo, I gotta check out my man!"
Murphy also chatted about meeting President Obama as he received the award. “It was really nice going to the President, getting to be with the President, being in the oval office and all that, I was tripping about that that telling jokes led me, that I was actually in the oval office for telling jokes.” During their meeting, Obama asked Eddie if he would do stand-up comedy again. Eddie revealed, “I said, I don't know… He said, I'm issuing an executive order for you to do stand up, I said, I guess I'm gonna have to go write some jokes sir.”
Kathy Griffin revealed that Eddie held a private "SNL" viewing party on Saturday to honor Morgan. Griffin said, "It was Eddie, me, Chappelle, Arsenio."
Alec Baldwin's wife Hilaria also told "Extra" how wonderful it was to see Tracy rehearse with the cast of "SNL." She gushed, "These are people who worked together for so many years… to see them interact."
"SNL" cast member Jay Pharaoh raved about Tracy, saying, "Tracy's a funny guy. He will say the same joke 45 times. It's just good to see him back doing what he loves to do."
Morgan has clearly made progress since his deadly car crash, which killed his friend Jimmy McNair, last year. Morgan said, "This time last year, I was in a wheelchair, thinking about walking again. Now I'm hosting 'SNL.' What it was was triumph of the human spirit."
