Tiger Woods' First Words Following Arrest
Golfer Tiger Woods wants the public to know what happened leading up to his arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The star released a statement Monday night, saying, “I understand the severity of what I did and I take full responsibility for my actions. I want the public to know that alcohol was not involved. What happened was an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications. I didn't realize the mix of medications had affected me so strongly.”
He continued, "I would like to apologize with all my heart to my family, friends and the fans. I expect more from myself too. I will do everything in my power to ensure this never happens again.”
Woods insisted, "I fully cooperated with law enforcement," and thanked the local police department and sheriff's office for their professionalism.
According to DailyMail.com, Tiger was taken into custody at 3 a.m. Monday morning in Jupiter Island, Florida. Woods spent eight hours at Palm Beach County Jail before being released at 10:50 a.m. See his mug shot above.
Law enforcement sources told TMZ that Tiger was "driving erratically" in his 2015 Mercedes when cops pulled him over. He reportedly refused to take a breathalyzer test. In Florida, refusal to take the test automatically results in arrest and license suspension.
Woods had fusion surgery on his spine five weeks ago, and isn't expected back on the golf course for a few more months.
