NASCAR Driver Ryan Newman Rushed to Hospital After Fiery Daytona 500 Crash
On Monday, NASCAR driver Ryan Newman, 42, was involved in a terrifying car crash during the Daytona 500.
Newman was rushed to the hospital and is in “serious condition.” NASCAR released a statement, saying, “Ryan Newman is being treated at Halifax Medical Center. He is in serious condition, but doctors have indicated his injuries are not life threatening. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers and ask that you respect the privacy of Ryan and his family during this time. We appreciate your patience and cooperation and we will provide more information as it becomes available.”
In a video obtained by Fox NASCAR, Newman's car was seen flying into the air before flipping upside down after being tapped by Ryan Blaney's car during the final lap of the Dayton 500.

Newman's car eventually caught on fire and then ended up on its side by the pit road.
Following the crash, Blaney told USA Today, “I hope he's all right. That looked really bad and not something you want to do. Definitely unintentional. It sucks to lose a race, but you never want to see anyone get hurt.”
The race was won by Denny Hamlin, who addressed the crash at a press opportunity after the race, saying, “I didn't see the contact that the other car had with him when he was in the air, so, that's kinda the worst-case scenario you can possibly have, any time you have a wreck, is to have somebody kinda nose in right there where your head's at.”
Just four days before the crash, Ryan and wife Krissie announced the split. He tweeted, “After 16 years of marriage, Krissie and I have decided to amicably separate. We will continue to jointly raise our girls, while remaining friends and continuing to work together supporting Rescue Ranch. Thank you for the years of support and friendship. We ask that out [sic] daughters' privacy be respected at this time.”
Following the crash, Krissie expressed her shock, tweeting, “Omg.”
Newman has been racing for NASCAR since 2000.
In 2001, racing legend Dale Earnhardt lost his life in a collision at the Daytona 500.
