'Mom' Cast Reacts to Anna Faris' Departure
The hit series “Mom” returns this week with one famous face missing — star Anna Faris is leaving the show ahead of Season 8.
“Extra's” Rachel Lindsay was with Allison Janney, Jaime Pressly, Kristen Johnston, Mimi Kennedy and Beth Hall, who talked about her departure and what fans can expect.
Anna Faris’ Surprising ‘Mom’ Exit — What Does It Mean for Her Character?
View StoryAllison said, “All the characters will handle it individually. It's a huge loss for the show. We are so grateful that we get to continue." She made sure to compliment her former co-star, observing, "Anna created such a beautiful, memorable, wonderful character in Christy.”
Jaime said, “We feel like she is still here, 'cause they talk all the time on the phone and we talk about her.”
Allison went on, “The writers created a positive storyline for her, one that shows that sometimes in recovery your life can get bigger… Christy had big dreams, and we see them coming true for her.”
Saying her character, Bonnie, who is Christy's mom, is deeply affected by her daughter being out of the picture, Allison said, “She's jealous, she's sad, she misses her daughter.”
“It's a testament to the writers and to [creator] Chuck [Lorre] and the show that they created that you could have a major character like this exit a show and have it be seamless," Kristen chimed in.
The ladies told "Extra" they were all happy to be back together shooting the show, albeit safely during COVID-19. Allison promised, “We make you laugh, make you cry," and Mimi Kennedy added, “Make you hopeful.”
Jaime raved about her working environment, “I found it a release to be able to leave my children and come here to be with these women.”
“Mom” airs Thursday on CBS.
