Emotional Demi Lovato Stops and Restarts Her Grammy Performance of ‘Anyone’
Demi Lovato took the 2020 Grammys stage to sing her new song “Anyone,” which was actually written days before her near-fatal overdose.
The star appeared emotional as she started the song, and actually stopped and restarted as a tear ran down her cheek.
Lovato, who wore a stunning white gown, went on to give a powerful performance that ended with a standing ovation.
The song speaks to how lonely Lovato may have felt during that part of her life. The heart-wrenching lyrics include, “Anyone, please send me anyone/Lord, is there anyone?/I need someone/Anyone, please send me anyone.”
Demi recently told Zane Lowe on Apple Music's Beats 1, "I listen back and hear these lyrics as a cry for help. You kind of listen back to it and you think, how did nobody listen to this song and think, 'Let's help this girl?'"
She went on, “I was recording it in a state of mind where I felt I was okay, but clearly I wasn't. I even listen back to it and I'm like, 'Gosh, I wish I could go back in time and help that version of myself.'"
The 27-year-old said that after her overdose in July 2018, she was in the hospital thinking, "If there's ever a moment where I get to come back from this, I want to sing this song."
