Mike Johnson on How He Felt Learning He Would Not Be the Bachelor
"I didn't want to be there at all."

View StorySpeaking with Rachel Lindsay for her "Bachelor Happy Hour with Rachel & Ali" podcast this week, Johnson revealed he was in his trailer about to go on to rehash his experiences on "BIP" when he learned the bad news that Peter "Pilot Pete" Weber would be the next Bachelor.
Johnson would've been the first black bachelor, and the first veteran bachelor.
“Yes, I wanted to be the Bachelor," Mike admitted. "Yes, I auditioned to be the Bachelor. I went in there with the right intentions of wanting to find love, wanting to be true to myself."
Still, as much of a let-down as the news was, Johnson is keeping it classy, saying, "When I first found out, I'm not gonna lie — I was sad. I was annoyed when I very first found out, but then, I think by the end of the night, I wasn't annoyed no more because I was appreciative and thankful that they told me 'no' right then and there, because now I can focus on myself."
He also said he thinks the show "chose the right person for what they want — and there's nothing wrong with that at all."
Showing respect for Peter, Mike said, "I think Peter is a good-looking dude with his 5 o'clock shadow. He has a fun, super fun job. His family's amazing. His little brother, I know personally — he's a dope kid." He had all those positive things to say, even though he still thinks he "would have been more entertaining."
Let's wait and see if Johnson's time in Bachelor Nation is truly over.
