Royal Wedding: Gay Edition — Queen Elizabeth's Cousin to Marry Partner
People magazine reports that Lord Ivar Mountbatten, a cousin of Queen Elizabeth's, is set to marry his partner James Coyle at a chapel on his Devon estate this summer — the first-ever same-sex marriage for the British royals!
Mountbatten, who is divorced, has been out since 2016. He told DailyMail.com he wants to marry James to give him the "stable life" that Mountbatten has already experienced as a married dad.
Mountbatten told DailyMail.com theirs will be "a very modern marriage." In fact, his ex-wife, Penny, will give Mountbatten away, which was the idea of the couple's three daughters — Ella, 22, Alix, 20, and Luli, 15.
She told DailyMail.com, “Ivar is so much more relaxed these days. He's so much kinder. He probably wasn't even aware that by keeping his sexuality a secret it was really quite tormenting him. Now it's out, he's a completely different person. Everybody says they've never seen him happier.”
The ceremony is unlikely to rival that of Meghan and Prince Harry, being described by Mountbatten as small, with "lovely food and good music," and "cheese instead of cake."
