Brad Pitt Talks Politics, Kids, and More in Oscars Acceptance Speech
On Sunday night, Brad Pitt took home the first award of the night at the 2020 Oscars!
Pitt beat out Tom Hanks, Al Pacino, Anthony Hopkins and Joe Pesci for Best Supporting Actor for his work on “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood.
Before he took the stage, Brad hugged his co-star Leonardo DiCaprio, who sat next to girlfriend Camila Morrone.
Brad told the star-studded crowd, “Wow. This is really incredible. Thank you, Academy, for this honor of honors.”
Noting that he had 45 seconds on stage, Pitt also took a political jab, saying that it was 45 more seconds than John Bolton got at President Trump's impeachment trial. He added, “I'm thinking Quentin does a movie about it and in the end, the adults do the right thing.”
He also acknowledged Leonardo DiCaprio, saying, “Leo, I'll ride on your coattails any day man.”
The 56-year-old showed “a little love” to the “stunt coordinators and out crews.”
The “gobsmacked” Pitt recounted his road to Hollywood, adding, “Once upon a time in Hollywood? Ain't that the truth.”
He ended his speech by thanking his children, saying, “This is for my kids, who color everything I do, I adore you.”
It was the first time that Brad has mentioned his children in an acceptance speech this year.
It was recently reported that Brad skipped out on the BAFTAs to spend time with estranged son Maddox. While Pitt cited a “family obligation,” a source told The Sun, “Maddox gave Brad the chance to talk and he dropped everything.”
“Being a father is the most important thing in his life and he would do anything to repair their relationship,” the insider added. “Maddox has been away at university, so when Brad found out he was going to be around and they could have a conversation, he canceled the UK trip.”
Pitt has been winning big at all the major award shows, including the Golden Globes, SAG Awards, Critics' Choice Awards, and the BAFTAs. He has also been grabbing headlines for his hilarious acceptance speeches.
