Bong Joon-ho Breaks News on ‘Parasite’ Series
Before “Parasite's” Bong Joon-ho took home the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, Best International Film, Best Director and Best Picture at the 92nd annual Academy Awards, he and his translator were with “Extra's” Billy Bush on the red carpet.
The filmmaker, who received six nominations for his Korean-language thriller, broke this news about an HBO limited series based on “Parasite,” saying, “We are in the very early stages. We start discussions with Adam McKay. We are doing our best to make sure we create a high-quality limited series.”
He also joked about his name, saying he was actually gifted a “bong” after learning what it was.
Joon-ho explained, “I learned of the meaning of 'bong' — a distributor told me about it and I just wanted to feel high as well.” He said, “They gave me a bong… bong to Bong… It was a bit of a hard time in the airport.”
He said it was at JFK 10 years ago, insisting, “It was a very clean glass bong; there wasn't anything in it.”
“Extra's” Jenn Lahmers also caught up with Joon-ho at the Governors Ball, where he opened up about his big night and how he planned to celebrate.
