Kelly Clarkson Says Blake Shelton's Appendix Surgery Was Worse Than Hers
Monday night, singer Kelly Clarkson was back to work on “The Voice,” just days after having her appendix removed!
Last week, Kelly revealed that she had emergency surgery right after hosting the Billboard Music Awards. She tweeted, “Not gonna lie…. I may or may not have broken down in tears after the show from pain BUT thanks 2 all the amazing people @ Cedars-Sinai I flew home directly after the event, nailed the surgery early this morning, & feeling awesome now!”
The 37-year-old joked, “Bye bye appendix #TheShowMustGoOn.”
Kelly Clarkson Underwent Surgery Just Hours After Hosting Billboard Awards!
View StoryWhen “Extra's” Renee Bargh complimented her for not letting the pain stop her from hosting and performing, Kelly downplayed it, saying, “No, I know a lot of people. I think we're all like that... all artists.”
Kelly revealed that fellow judge Blake Shelton had his appendix removed when he was younger. She said, “His ruptured. When he was younger. He's had it way worse than me.”
It looks like Kelly was suffering from acute appendicitis even before hosting the show. She elaborated, “I was supervised… I'd been in contact with my doctors. I knew I was getting the surgery right after, I was onstage with one of my friends singing with me, battling, surviving cancer — a lot of people doing a lot of things way more cool and heroic than me.”
Clarkson noted that the pain was tolerable for most of the show. She pointed out, “It wasn't bad until the end of the show because my adrenaline stopped, then I was really excited about getting it out.”
This week, the judges coached their Top 13 contestants, but Kelly wasn't expecting any special treatment. When asked if her fellow judges were being extra nice to her after the surgery, Kelly quipped, “I will not respect them if they start being nice to me. I want complete, utter jerks.”
“The Voice” airs Monday nights on NBC.
