Charlize Theron Credits Mom for Her Bravery, Plus: Her ‘Unexpected’ Tease About Roger Ailes Movie
It was a powerful night at the “Elle Women in Hollywood” celebration Monday evening.
“Extra's” Renee Bargh spoke with Charlize Theron, who was honored as one of “Elle's 2018 Women in Hollywood.” As for where she gets her strength, Theron said, “I think we all have to find our own footing. None of us are born knowing how to navigate life and difficult decisions — especially for young girls. No matter who you are or where you come from, the struggle is maybe a little bit different, but all interconnects. I am lucky enough that I had a great mom who really kind of made me brave and always told me to be brave. I don't know who I might have been without that.”
“I also have amazing girlfriends in my life,” Charlize added. “Tonight is great because I never thank them enough. I don't want to get all teary, but I am so blessed to have the most amazing women in my life.”
Theron is about to play another powerful woman in media, Megyn Kelly, in a new movie about disgraced Fox News chief Roger Ailes and the sexual harassment scandal that ended his career. She shared, “I think it's an important story to tell…And it felt original, it felt, like, super timely. I love Jay Roach, who is directing it, there's something just very special. It's very unexpected the way we're telling the story; I don't think it's what people think, what they imagine it to be.”
