On Monday morning, Jackman captioned a bandaged photo of himself on Instagram, "An example of what happens when you don't wear sunscreen. Basal Cell. The mildest form of cancer but serious, nonetheless. PLEASE USE SUNSCREEN and get regular check-ups.”
Hugh has undergone four skin cancer removals in the past 26 months. The first time he noticed a cancerous mark was in November 2013 when he was shooting “X Men: Days of Future Past.”

He told People about his scares, "It's always a bit of a shock just hearing the word 'cancer.'” Being an Australian it's a very common thing. I never wore sunscreen growing up so I was a prime candidate for it. I was trying to keep calm about it but it wasn't until [his skin cancer surgeon] Dr. Michael Albom really explained to me that what I had, in a way, was the kind of skin cancer you want to have if you're going to have it. Basal cell carcinoma is just something you have to deal with. It's cancerous. It will grow. You just have to get it out."
