He told Billy, “Man, it got scary.” The scariest part? He said, “There was a moment where I woke up about 3 or 4 in the morning with the bed soaking wet from night sweats and the symptom of not catching my breath got me… panic-bought oxygen from Amazon at 4 a.m. because I didn't know how I was going to breathe.”
Colton added, “The reason why the cough was so bad and so scary was while you cough, you can't breathe... those two symptoms together... and I see why people with pre-existing conditions suffer from this because I feel like I was a healthy 28-year-old and it knocked me on my butt very quickly.”
Colton said he shared his story initially to help others. “I was just telling them, 'This is serious and you need to listen to your doctors and health care providers and stay inside.'”
Underwood is still unsure how he got the virus. “That's the scariest part of all… I don't know how. I don't know when, I don't know where it came from… or how long it was sitting in me, or if I was infecting other people…”
He is with his girlfriend Cassie Randolph and her family, and all of them are healthy.
The Latest on Bachelor Colton Underwood as He Battles COVID-19
View Story“I don't know how, but the entire family is completely symptom-free.” They did take precautions while caring for him, “Per the CDC and per all the health rules and regulations, we tried to follow all their guidelines as close as possible — and I think that's what saved them from having it.”
Now, Colton is sharing more personal stories in his new book, “The First Time,” which is out today.
“I do talk in there about how it was sort of re-owning my story and the whole purpose in writing this book is to feel like I have control of my life… It was so therapeutic to write it... It was so emotional to write certain things and figure out what's been going on not only these last two years, but my entire life. It was such a fun project to work on and something that I'm going to cherish for a long time and I'm excited for it to be out.”
