See Cate Blanchett's Reaction When She Finds Out She Inspired a 'Game of Thrones' Character
Cate Blanchett has some experience playing a queen, and an actress from “Game of Thrones” took notice.
Emilia Clarke told The Wrap that Cate Blanchett's “Elizabeth” character inspired her portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen aka Khaleesi in “Game of Thrones.”
When “Extra's” Terri Seymour revealed the news to Cate, she was beside herself. “Oh, really?” she said, adding it would have been the other way around if Emilia “would have been born when I played Elizabeth.”
"That's lovely, I'm flattered," she gushed.
So does that mean Blanchett is a “Game of Thrones” fan? She confessed that she does watch, but with her hands over her face!
The star also talked about her latest role in “Carol,” the story of a 1950s housewife caught in a forbidden romance with a woman, played by Rooney Mara.
“I really love the obsessive nature of the love between the two women,” she said
As far as the costumes are concerned, Cate joked, “Yeah, I do love a girdle, yes I love a girdle, but I'm not into making period pieces for their own sake.”
“Carol” is definitely generating Oscar buzz, prompting Terri to ask about the time Cate won for “Blue Jasmine.”
The star admitted that director Woody Allen was tough on her, and she didn't mind one bit.
“What I love about Woody is he's as brutal and tough on himself as he is with the actors and I really relish a director saying what they think. So yeah, on the first day he told me I was awful, and I thought, 'Okay, I need to change what I'm doing.' Better he told me then, [and not] in four weeks and I would have to reshoot everything.”
“Carol” opens in theaters on Nov. 20.
