Bob Saget Dies at 65 — His Joyful Final Tweet

Bob Saget, beloved for his performance as Danny Tanner on "Full House, has died at 65.

TMZ reports Saget died Sunday at the Orlando Ritz-Carlton, but there are no details as to a cause. TMZ reports the Orange County Sheriff's Office told the outlet, "We have no information on cause of death, and detectives have found no signs of foul play or drug use in this case."

Sheriff and fire department personnel reportedly responded to a call at 4 p.m. ET, and hotel security discovered Saget in his room. According to TMZ, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Saget was in the midst of a tour, and had tweeted in the early hours of Sunday, "Loved tonight’s show @PV_ConcertHall in Jacksonville. Appreciative audience. Thanks again to @RealTimWilkins for opening. I had no idea I did a 2 hr set tonight. I’m happily addicted again to this sh*t. Check http://BobSaget.com for my dates in 2022."

Late in the day, the Orange County Sheriff's Office tweeted, "Earlier today, deputies were called to the Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes for a call about an unresponsive man in a hotel room. The man was identified as Robert Saget & pronounced deceased on scene. Detectives found no signs of foul play or drug use in this case.  #BobSaget."

According to his website, Saget recently helped raise over $700,000 to battle the disease scleroderma, which claimed his sister's life in 1994. Gay Saget had previously inspired the 1996 TV movie "For Hope" that her brother directed.

Bob Saget was born May 17, 1956, in Philadelphia. He grew up in Pennsylvania and California and intended to become a doctor before a teacher encouraged him to explore his creative side.

Graduating from Temple University's film school, he cited a near-death experience when his appendix burst as motivating him, and he began acting.

After appearances on such series as "Bosom Buddies" (1981), his debut, and "The Greatest American Hero" (1983), Saget was cast as Danny Tanner on "Full House," a surprise smash powered by interest in his co-stars Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. The show ran for 192 episodes from 1987-1995, and he reprised the role for approximately 15 episodes on "Fuller House" (2016-2020).

Saget was also the host of "America's Funniest Home Videos" from 1989-1997, was a regular on "Raising Dad" (2001-2002) and "Surviving Suburbia" (2009), recurred on "Entourage" (2005-2010 and the 2015 feature) in a self-parodying role, and (playing the future Ted Mosby) was the narrator of "How I Met Your Mother" (2005-2014).

Saget appeared in the films "Full Moon High" (1981), "Critical Condition" (1987), "Meet Wally Sparks" (1997), "Half Baked" (1998), "A Stand Up Guy" (2016), "Benjamin" (2019), and "Killing Daniel" (2021).

Along with "Through Adam's Eyes," his 1977 documentary short that he worked on while attending school, he directed "Moving" (1981), "Dirty Work" (1998), "Farce of the Penguins" (2006), "Benjamin" (2019), and a documentary on comic actor Martin Mull that is thought to be in post-production, as well as several TV movies and episodes.

Most recently, Saget had hosted the "Bob Saget's Here for You" podcast (2020) and was revealed as the man inside the Squiggly Monster on "The Masked Singer" (2020).

Saget is survived by his wife, Kelly Rizzo, and his three children.

Saget's shocking death led to a slew of reactions online from his friends and peers, including, a bereaved tweet from co-star John Stamos:

B.J. Novak tweeted, "I have always and will always love Bob Saget."

Jon Stewart added, "Just the funniest and nicest..."

Guy Fieri mourned losing "a great guy and a friend."

TV great Norman Lear, who will turn 100 later this year, tweeted, "Bob Saget was as lovely a human as he was funny. And to my mind, he was hilarious. We were close friends and I could not have loved him more."

Margaret Cho tweeted, "Bob Saget was an amazing comedian and a really warm and generous man. It doesn’t seem real to me yet, I just saw him last week and it’s hard to even imagine him not being here. He was the best."
