'The Flash': Wentworth Miller Won't Play Villain Captain Cold as 'Strictly Evil'
Captain Cold is joining “The Flash” this week!
Wentworth Miller plays the villain, street name Leonard Snart, who is known in the comic books as the leader of the Rogues, a loose criminal organization.
ExtraTV.com caught up with Miller, Grant Gustin (Barry Allen) and Jesse Martin (Joe West) on the set in Vancouver to find out more!
Wentworth told reporters that Captain Cold “has it out for The Flash,” but isn't “strictly evil,” and there will definitely be a gray area.
Miller, who starred in “Prison Break” for four seasons, described Snart as “this very powerful guy, who I think has been at the top of his game for a long time and maybe he's gotten a little bored, a little complacent and then all of a sudden this extremely worthy adversary shows up and suddenly the game's interesting again. I think while he has it out for The Flash, on some level there's also an appreciation and a certain degree of respect and I like the fact that he's a villain, but there's hints that other things are stirring beneath the surface.”
Wenworth continued, “I like the fact that I'm not strictly evil, that there are shades of gray. That there are things for me to kind of explore and layer in, that speak to the human side of Snart, because he does have a history and it is complicated, and it does speak to who he is now and it's my hope that given time, we have a chance to explore some of those things.”

The way Gustin sees it, “It's not fun for Barry. Like, it's fun for Snart and that's the whole thing that's driving him. It's like 'Ohhhh, what's this new challenge?' And it's kind of re-energizing [to him] trying to take his game to the next level. But for Barry, I think it's kind of just a pain in the ass. This guy won't go away. And there are bigger things that Barry's trying to focus on and it's hard to focus on everything at once.”
Jesse Martin, who plays Joe West on the show, said he was amazed by Wentworth's performance, explaining, “Captain Cold is just the slowest, smoothest burn you've ever seen… just deadpan funny, almost no inflections and still cool as hell.”
He added, “He's obviously not meta, but he's got a gun and he's not afraid to use that. That's all I can say really. He's hell-bent on causing destruction.”
While Wentworth's joins the show for episode 4, fans will be excited to hear that his “Prison Break” brother Dominic Purcell will be teaming up with him onscreen as Heat Wave in episode 10! Check back closer to the air date for more on that episode.
Watch “The Flash” on Tuesday's at 8 PM on The CW.
