Why Ryan Gosling Felt ‘Grateful’ to Thank Eva Mendes in Heartfelt Golden Globes Speech
It was a big night for "La La Land" at the Golden Globes last night; the film won a record seven, including awards for Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone and for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy.
Winning the hearts of all with his acceptance speech, Ryan Gosling talked about his relationship with Eva Mendes and their daughters, something he rarely speaks about in public.
The Golden Globe winner said in his speech, “I just would like to try and thank one person properly and say that while I was singing and dancing and playing piano and having one of the best experiences I've ever had on a film, my lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer. If she hadn't have taken all that on so that I could have this experience, it would surely be someone else up here other than me today. So, sweetheart, thank you. To my daughters, Amada and Esmeralda, I love you and if I may, I'd like to dedicate this to the memory of her brother, Juan Carlos Mendez.”
While accompanied by his co-star Emma Stone and director Damien Chazelle, Ryan explained to “Extra” backstage, “I was just grateful to have an opportunity to thank them publicly. Obviously, I thank them in my life, but it's wonderful to have an opportunity to really speak to how much they mean to me and how responsible they are for a lot of things I am able to do.”
