Rihanna Is ‘Safe’ in Nice as Hollywood Reacts to Bastille Day Attacks
Yesterday, the world was rocked by the devastating news that dozens of people were killed on Bastille Day in Nice, France.
Tunisian-born Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel drove a truck through a crowd of people celebrating the annual French holiday, killing at least 84 and injuring over 200. Bouhlel killed at least two Americans — business executive, Sean Copeland and his son Brodie, who were in Nice for a family vacation. Copeland's niece wrote on Twitter, "I am asking for prayers for my family, due to the tragedy in Nice, France I lost my uncle Sean and my 11 year old cousin Brodie I ask for prayers for my aunt Kim and my two other cousins Maegan and Austin during this tough time and prayers for my family's safe trip back home #CopelandStrong.”
One famous name, Rihanna, was also in town during the attacks, but was not harmed. Her reps told Just Jared, “She is safe. She is ok.”
Rihanna's people are apparently trying to get her out of Nice as quickly as possible, according to TMZ, who was the first to report the news of her presence in the city. Rihanna was prepping for a concert, which was scheduled to happen on Friday. The concert has since been canceled.
The “This Is What You Came For” singer isn't the only one changing her schedule due to the Bastille Day attack. Donald Trump wrote on Twitter, "In light of the horrible attack in Nice, France, I have postponed tomorrow's news conference concerning my Vice Presidential announcement.” Multiple reports suggested he had tapped Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his running mate.
Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson were also shooting the sequel to "Fifty Shades of Grey" in Nice for the past few weeks, but wrapped shortly before the attacks. Producer Dana Brunetti tweeted, "Back safe in my hotel room. Thanks for everyone's concern and messages. As far as I know everyone from our cast and crew is safe. Thanks for everyone's concern."
Other celebrities, including Amy Schumer, Josh Duhamel, and Simon Cowell, also took to social media to #PrayForNice after the unexpected attack. Read the tweets below.
