Reese Witherspoon Opens Up on #TIMESUP Movement, Plus: ‘Big Little Lies’ Season 2 Surprises
Before her HBO hit “Big Little Lies” took home the Golden Globe, Reese made a powerful statement!
The producer and actress was one of the big names at the forefront of the #TIMESUP movement. “Extra's” Renee Bargh and Adam Glassman spoke with Reese, who said of her involvement in the campaign,“It is so not [just] me, it is so a group effort of 400 people coming together — executives, directors — and just saying, 'Time's up on abuse, harassment, discrimination in the workplace, not just in Hollywood, in every industry. Enough is enough.' It's amazing.”
Men have also told Reese they've been the victims of sexual harassment. She emphasized, “This is not about women, it's about taking the power back and doing anything we can to advocate for people who have less legal resources, and that's why we started the Time's Up Legal Defense Fund and we raised $16 million... And it's in so many countries, over 60 countries.”
Smiling from ear to ear, Reese shared, “And we're so touched and moved by how many people are wearing black today.” Looking in our camera, Reese pointed out, “You guys are wearing black!” as she noticed that the “Extra” team joined the cause. She added, “We are so touched and moved… Hopefully, this is something that can just move the needle a little bit.”
Reese said she is so excited by the movement that she nearly forgot about her nomination! She did dish on the highly anticipated second season of “Big Little Lies,” saying, “We are so excited to bring it to you guys… There's lots of surprises, there's new cast members.”
Filming is set to take place next month.
