Tamera Mowry Reveals Pain Over Hateful Comments About Her Marriage
TV personality Tamera Mowry became emotional as she described hurtful Twitter comments she has received regarding her biracial marriage to FOX News correspondent Adam Housely.
In her interview on “Oprah: Where Are They Now?” with twin sister Tia Mowry, Tamera tearfully highlighted some of the attacks by haters, who called Tamera a “white man's whore,” among other racial slurs.
Tamera said, “See, this is where I get emotional, because it's hurtful. Because when my husband and I are so openly -- and we're fine with showing -- is love. Love. But people choose to look past love and spew hate. That's what hurts me, because I've never experienced so much hate ever in my life, ever.”
The former “Sister Sister” star, now 35, married Housely three years ago, and the two have a 14-month-old son.
“I couldn't even fathom or think of these words,” said the actress. “I'm a product of it. My mom is a beautiful black woman and my dad is an amazing white man, and I grew up seeing a family. I didn't grow up saying, 'Oh, that's a white man.'”
She added that an especially painful remark she saw online involved her twin sister, Tia, who is married to actor Cory Hardrict. “They say, 'Oh, Tia's a true black woman because she married a black man.' Oh, I'm less of a black person because I married white?”
The sisters recently announced they would not be continuing with their Style Network reality show “Tia & Tamera.” Tamera has a gig on the upcoming FOX daytime talk show “The Real,” while Tia stars in the Nick at Nite show “Instant Mom,” which debuted in September of 2013.
"Oprah: Where Are They Now" airs Fridays on OWN.
