Gwyneth Paltrow Knew Vaginal Steaming Would ‘Cause a Stir'
Actress Gwyneth Paltrow is currently promoting her business Goop at Marie Claire's Power Trip conference in San Francisco, along with 100 other like-minded businesswomen.
While speaking with Marie Claire's Editor-in-Chief Anne Fulenwider, she reflected on her talk about vaginal steaming one year later. In 2015, she suggested others try a vaginal steaming, saying in her newsletter, "You sit on what is essentially a mini-throne, and a combination of infrared and mugwort steam cleanses your uterus, et al. It is an energetic release — not just a steam douche — that balances female hormone levels. If you're in L.A., you have to do it."
Gwyneth brought loads of attention to vaginal steaming, with many Googling what it was and if it was healthy. In retrospect, she knew it would break the Internet, explaining, "I was like, 'Oh, I think this is gonna cause a stir.' For weeks, there was nothing. My editorial board was like, 'That's so weird...' And then somebody picked it up, and it went totally insane.” Watch!

Paltrow also chatted about the criticism that Goop has received over the years. She shared, "There were times when people were very cruel about me and what I was trying to do. At a certain point, you think, 'Gosh, this just can't be about me. This has to be a projection, or this has to be something else. There has to be some other energetic body behind this, because I'm just selling some f*cking sweaters.'”
