How Drew Barrymore’s ‘Santa Clarita Diet’ Role Helped Her Through Will Kopelman Divorce
Last night, “Extra's” Renee Bargh caught up with Drew Barrymore at the premiere of her new Netflix show “The Santa Clarita Diet” in Los Angeles, where the star got candid about how her role helped her during her divorce from Will Kopleman.
After calling the end of their four-year marriage her “biggest failure,” Drew shared, “I was going through a really tough time.”
In the new series, Drew plays Sheila, a real estate agent who dies and turns into a murdering, flesh-eating mom. She opened up about how playing Sheila helped her heal, saying, “Funny enough, 'cause I thought it was the worst timing. I was just in a hard place in my personal life and I hadn't been working for years 'cause I wanted to stay home and raise my kids, and then this came along and I was like, 'Oh, no, what do I do?' and then my character Sheila has such a wake-up call and there's such a sense of empowerment and feminism and things that were metaphorical and unexpected that I got to do alongside of her that totally did my own life wonderfully.”
The 41-year-old also lost weight, reportedly 20 pounds. After Renee complimented her, Drew responded, “Thank you for saying that.”
The mom of two is busy working and co-parenting her daughters Frankie, 2 1/2, and Olive, 4 with her ex. She recently posted a pic of Olive and Will supporting the Women's March in NYC, saying, “Yeah, you got to love when your daughter and her father are both being feminist in the largest gathering…i just couldn't have been more proud of them. I love, love, love that my daughter has this strong feeling about being a part of this march and I can just see her little warrior ignite.”
