Kirk Douglas’ Will Revealed — Who Inherits His Fortune?
New details have been released about Hollywood legend Kirk Douglas' will weeks after his passing at 103.
The Mirror reports that Douglas left the bulk of his $61-million fortune to charity.
It has been reported that $50 million will be given to St. Lawrence University, Sinai Temple in Westwood, the Kirk Douglas Theatre, and Children's Hospital Los Angeles through the Douglas Foundation, which aims to help those in need.
Kirk reportedly left no money to his son Michael, who is worth roughly $300 million on his own.
Earlier this month, Michael announced his dad's death, writing on Instagram, “It is with tremendous sadness that my brothers and I announce that Kirk Douglas left us today at the age of 103. To the world he was a legend, an actor from the golden age of movies who lived well into his golden years, a humanitarian whose commitment to justice and the causes he believed in set a standard for all of us to aspire to.”
Michael went on, “But to me and my brothers Joel and Peter he was simply Dad, to Catherine, a wonderful father-in-law, to his grandchildren and great grandchild their loving grandfather, and to his wife Anne, a wonderful husband.”
He also praised his father's legacy, writing, “Kirk's life was well lived, and he leaves a legacy in film that will endure for generations to come, and a history as a renowned philanthropist who worked to aid the public and bring peace to the planet.”
He closed with, “Let me end with the words I told him on his last birthday and which will always remain true. Dad- I love you so much and I am so proud to be your son. #KirkDouglas.”
Kirk was laid to rest at the the Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park and Mortuary. Aside from Michael, some of the mourners were Kirk's wife of 65 years, Anne Buydens, and his sons Peter and Joel.
Michael's wife Catherine Zeta-Jones also attended with their son Cameron.
