New Details! What Really Caused Ben and Jen’s Divorce?
There were rumors of gambling, drinking and years of couples therapy, but what really busted up Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner's marriage?
There are conflicting reports about what happened. One source told TMZ that Jen was fed up with Ben's obsession with the tables and his boozing, while another told Page Six, "The situation is that people change and they grow apart."
Affleck's gambling habit was no secret. He was banned from the Hard Rock in Las Vegas last year for counting cards, and just a few weeks ago, spies say Ben was back in Sin City playing high stakes poker instead of watching their three kids in L.A. while Jennifer was on a trip to NYC.
That same week, Garner was alone with the children, Violet, 9, Seraphina, 6, and Samuel, 3, on Mother's Day, while Affleck spent the holiday with his mom.
A source tells “Extra” the pair had been in therapy for years, and Ben hinted at marital problems in his 2013 Oscar acceptance speech, telling his wife, "I want to thank you for working on marriage for 10 Christmases. It's good, it is work, but it's the best kind of work, and there's no one I'd rather work with."
Ben and Jen, who had no prenup, are said to be handling the split via mediation. In this case, neither is likely to receive spousal support because they don't need it. Their combined net worth is reportedly $150 million.
Regardless of their troubles, Ben and Jen will put their children first.
Sources tell us the couple is seriously committed to co-parenting, so much so that Ben is still living in the family home and will continue to for now.
Life & Style reports that Affleck will be moving into his own “man cave” on their Pacific Palisades property. “Ben is making a section of the house into his private area,” an insider told the mag. “The area is complete with his own bedroom.”
Meanwhile, Radar says Garner is ready to make their former bedroom her own, obtaining construction permits to renovate the space.
The couple announced the split on Tuesday, telling “Extra” in a statement, “After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time.”
