Were Graphic Photos from Kobe Bryant's Helicopter Crash Leaked? Investigation Underway
It looks like the Los Angeles County Fire Department and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department have a serious problem on their hands.
TMZ reports that multiple L.A. County Sheriff's deputies took gruesome photos of the scene of the helicopter crash that took the lives of Kobe Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, and seven others.
The site claimed that one of the deputies pulled up the photos at a bar, several days after the crash. A source said, “He tried to impress a girl by showing her the photos.”
According to TMZ, the bartender filed an online complaint with the Sheriff's Department after overhearing the conversation.
Other cell phone photos were also allegedly taken and disseminated.
According to The Los Angeles Times, a source saw photos on one law enforcement official's cell phone “in a setting that had nothing to do with the investigation.”
The newspaper did not reveal who took the photos or how many people saw the photos. It did note that first responders were discussing how photos of victims' remains and the debris field were being shared just two days after the crash.
On Thursday, the Sheriff's Department said that the “matter is being looked into.”
Capt. Jorge Valdez, the head of the Sheriff's Information Bureau, said that the families were notified not because of the allegations against the deputies, but due to The Times' inquiry.
TMZ also reported that photos were also passed around to members of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, which is doing its own investigation.
