Nick Jonas Talks Miley, Purity Rings, and What’s a ‘No-Fly Zone’ Sex Deal-Breaker
Nick Jonas has never been shy talking about his personal life, and doesn't hold back in his latest interview with Elle magazine, in which the pop star opened up about ditching his purity ring, dating a beauty queen, and what went wrong in his relationship with Miley Cyrus, revealing that being young was a big factor in why they broke up.
“What's unfortunate is that, as we got older, we ran in different circles,” the singer revealed about the relationship. “We've always had respect and wished the best for each other. I don't know that I have any regrets. It's more gratitude for having had a good friend in a time of craziness in my life and in hers.”
Jonas, who has been dating Miss Universe Olivia Culpo since 2013, said dating other musicians can be “complicated at times, especially when they think highly of themselves.”
The 22-year-old singer wouldn't give up any names of who he was talking about, but did reveal dating a woman who didn't like his music could be a deal breaker, even joking, “I probably have dated women who didn't like my music,” but said it would be difficult, adding, “That's probably why I'm no longer with those people.”
There's been a lot of attention on Jonas' dating and sex life, and those purity rings the three Jonas brothers used to wear, but he said they only “shaped my view of the importance of sex.”
“It was about me being comfortable with my decisions,” Jonas added. “I'm a man in all ways, and I'm comfortable with that. It's freeing now to be transparent.”
Jonas freely talked about the time he lost his virginity, even divulging what he would do differently. “I think I would change the song. I don't want to say what song it was, but it was depressing. My iPod was on shuffle. It was a bad draw.”
For the record, Jonas said he has never had sex to his own music, “That's a no-fly zone,” but did say his single “Jealous” does have a good beat for it.
“It's got a good tempo for sex,” he joked. "They should be naming their babies Nick or Nicole.”
