The Latest on Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt’s Ugly Custody Battle
After Angelina Jolie filed court documents earlier this week, Brad Pitt made a request for an emergency hearing to seal the documents surrounding the court proceedings.
On Wednesday, a judge rejected Brad's “emergency action” to seal his custody battle with Angelina. Her attorney, Laura Wasser, says Jolie isn't opposed to the idea of sealing the documents, but opposed it since Brad's team didn't consult them beforehand, according to People magazine. A hearing has been scheduled for January to determine if the documents will be sealed.
Another source told People, "Brad Pitt's team repeatedly asked Angelina's camp to agree to seal custody proceedings. When, instead, they filed what they did on Monday and put the children's privacy at risk, Brad moved forward with the motion to seal all future proceedings.”
A second insider said, “Angelina has consistently made public statements and public filings throughout this process. He has not. All he is saying — and any therapist would agree here — is that he wants to do what is in the best interests of his children, and his entire family, including her, frankly. And that is to keep this private.”
In her recent court documents, Jolie requested that a psychologist determine when and how often Brad can see the their six children.
TMZ reports that Angelina wants the custody battle to stay private as long as Pitt follows the custody arrangement that was set in place in October. Her lawyers also claim Brad's desire to seal the documents is for his own benefit, not for the safety of the children.
The site also reported that Jolie's lawyer sent a proposal to Pitt's legal team, suggesting the two "participate in joint sessions with a trauma specialist so that they may learn how to best support and interact with their children."
