Arnold Schwarzenegger Weighs In on President Trump's Immigration Ban: 'It’s Crazy'
Arnold Schwarzenegger isn't holding back when it comes to criticizing President Trump!
The former Governor of California joined “Extra's” Mario Lopez at Universal Studios Hollywood, where the actor turned politician spoke about the latest political headlines, and about taking the reins from Trump on the new season of “The Celebrity Apprentice.”
Arnold, an immigrant from Austria, weighed in on the temporary ban placed on immigrants from seven majority-Muslim countries from entering the U.S., telling Mario, “I think the real problem is that it was vetted badly. If they would run this by the Justice Department and Homeland Security and had the lawyers really study and focus on it and give it some time to do it the right way… I know what he's trying to accomplish — his fear about people coming in from other places, causing harm to the country. There is another way to going about it to do it the right way and accomplish all of the goals. I think they were hasty with it.”
He went on to say, “To go and ban people who have a green card, that means that the United States of America has given you permission to work here permanently and you are on the way to permanent citizenship… I was in that position… It's crazy, it's crazy and makes us look stupid when the White House is ill-prepared to put this kind of executive order out there.”
Arnold added that he was in a similar position when he first took as governor. “You go in there new, you have a new team and mistakes are made; I hope this is a wake-up call for them.”
The 69-year-old urged the President to be more inclusive, saying, “The laws that stick the longest are the ones when both parties work together.”
Speaking of politics, Arnold revealed he would never run for office again. “I wasn't born to be a politician, I was born to go and be successful and give back.” After two terms as governor of California, he explained, “I have no interest in it now after I have done that… I did my thing. The next job up would be running for president, which is out of the question because I was not born in the United States.”
Schwarzenegger has returned to Hollywood, hosting “The Celebrity Apprentice” and having a great time doing it. “To work with so many celebrities that are really talented, you have all these different people working together, and making them get out of their comfort zone and making them do something they've never been done before… and it's fun to watch that and, of course, I am a fan of a lot of them myself.”
He has also given the show a new look, bringing the boardroom to Los Angeles. “I put my own mark on it, and it has been extremely entertaining and a lot of fun doing it.”
