Charlize Theron Reveals the Pressure of Playing Megyn Kelly in ‘Bombshell’
On Sunday, actress Charlize Theron was honored with the Career Achievement Award at the Hollywood Film Awards.
“Extra's” Jenn Lahmers caught up with Charlize, who dished on her role as Megyn Kelly in the highly anticipated film “Bombshell,” outlining the sexual harassment at Fox News.
Theron explained what was difficult about playing Megyn, pointing out, “She is incredibly well known, that put a lot of pressure on me.”
Did Charlize speak to Megyn to prep for the role? She said, “No, there were a lot of conversations going back with a lot of women who worked there and we've decided to be really respectful and protect our sources. A lot of women really risked a lot to talk to us and share their stories, they wanted us to get this movie right.”
“We have shared it with some women who have worked there and are part of this story and they are incredibly grateful that we did the research that we did and they feel really good about it,” Theron continued.
As for what she hopes woman will take away from the movie, Charlize shared, “I hope all women will realize that we are at the precipice of something big and we can't take any moment for granted right now… I feel like the younger generation is part of the revolution, I feel like a lot of younger women have been really brave in stepping forward and sharing their stories, it's a time for us all to really stand together and be unified, to really use this moment that we have right now to get some real change to happen.”
While Charlize is currently being praised for her portrayal of Kelly, she has been making waves in Hollywood since the late 1990s, starring in “The Devil's Advocate,” “The Cider House Rules,” “Monster,” and “North Country.”
Of the Career Achievement Award she received, the 44-year-old commented, “I feel like my job is such a gift and really, truly is the award. So this is the cherry on this amazing cake that I get to live every single day.”
“Bombshell” hits theaters December 13.
