Queen of Funk Sharon Jones Dead at 60
Sharon Jones, a late-blooming R&B singer who released her first album at age 40 and won her first Grammy just two years ago, has died of pancreatic cancer at age 60.
Variety reports Jones, subject of the documentary "Miss Sharon Jones!", revealed she was battling cancer while promoting the film at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2015.
Since around 1996, Jones has been called the Queen of Funk. The lead singer of Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, she has collaborated with artists as diverse as the late Lou Reed, Michael Bublé, and Phish.
She released six studio albums and two compilations, including this year's "Miss Sharon Jones!" soundtrack.
