'The Man from U.N.C.L.E.' Star Robert Vaughn Dead at 83
Robert Vaughn, the man most famous as TV's Napoleon Solo on the '60s cult classic "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.," has died at 83, The New York Times reports.
Vaughn died Friday of acute leukemia, which he had battled for a short time.
The handsome actor made a huge impression on "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." as an agent for the United Network Command for Law and Enforcement, going up against his enemies at T.H.R.U.S.H. (Technological Hierarchy for the Removal of Undesirables and the Subjugation of Humanity).
The show, a take-off on the James Bond franchise, capitalized on the craze for spy themes.
Vaughn's other achievements included an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for 1959's "The Young Philadelphians" and dozens of starring roles in films and guest-starring roles on TV.
