William Shatner Still Tweeting About Missing Leonard Nimoy’s Funeral
“Star Trek” icon Leonard Nimoy was laid to rest on Sunday morning in an intimate service.
His widow, Susan Bay, was seen outside the Beverly Hills funeral home, surrounded by friends (see pics here).
One person, however, was not there. Nimoy's “Trek” co-star and friend William Shatner received major flack for not being able to attend due to a Red Cross Ball charity commitment in Florida.
Shatner has been posting a series of tweets to answer the criticism. On Saturday, he wrote that his two daughters were going to the service on his behalf. "I feel really awful. Here I am doing charity work and one of my dearest friends is being buried. So let's spend some time tomorrow celebrating Leonard's life and remembering the man."
When the backlash started coming in, the actor tweeted, "Walking out on a major fundraiser wouldn't have you calling me a jerk for leaving a charity high & dry? Hmm?”
He added, "I chose to honor a commitment I made months ago to appear at a charitable fundraiser. A lot of money was raised. So here I am; tell me off."
Shatner flew back to L.A. later on Sunday, and TMZ caught him coming out of the airport, where he didn't mention Nimoy's funeral.
Then on Monday, Shatner tweeted, “We are still discussing this?” and then jokingly added, “I meant #thedress. What were you thinking I meant?”
Nimoy died last Friday at age 83 following a long battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
