Lamar Odom Shares Biggest Regrets Over Marriage to Khloé, Plus: Has She Read His Memoir?
Lamar Odom is getting candid about his life with the release of his new book “Darkness to Light.”
“Extra” was with the former NBA star Wednesday for an emotional interview covering his drug and sex addiction, and his tumultuous marriage to Khloé Kardashian.
Lamar and Khloé were married from 2009 to 2016, and he reveals in the book that he cheated on her numerous times. “The chapters about my infidelity, that was the hardest part,” he said, adding, “I wish I would have treated her the right way.” He didn't tell her about the book in advance, but he confirmed he has heard from her since. “I got a message from her yesterday — I think she read it,” he said.
He went on to say, “She was telling me that she was surprised that I remember one of the stories about her coming to the hotel and getting into it with a girl, but it was cool.”
In the book, he claims that Khloé didn't know he was an addict, and explained, “When you're an addict, you learn how to lie.”
Odom said he still has love for her. “When I see her in these other relationships and everything like that," he said, "I always felt she was still my girl.”
The athlete credits Kardashian with helping him heal after he overdosed and nearly died at a legal brothel in Nevada. “That's my angel,” he said. “She's one of the reasons why I can walk and talk now.”
His memoir also reveals he dated another big star — Taraji P. Henson! Lamar told us, “She was a good woman. She treated me well. At that time in my life, I think it was important to receive love from a black woman. It was deep, it was intense. It was a good time in my life.”
Opening up about his drug addiction, he said he still can't wrap his head around it. “I don't know if… my love for marijuana got me wanting to shoot something stronger. It's hard for me to understand what led me to go down that route. The first hit of cocaine was life-changing for me.” He added, “I lost a lot of people in my life. Maybe I was trying heal that pain.”
Odom asserted that he is sober and healthy now, explaining he wrote his book because "it was important for me to vent in a healthy way.” He made it clear his work is not done, saying, “When you're an addict, every day is a battle, but I am on the right road, moving forward.”
Odom said, “I live now for my children. I was living selfishly for a long time. Family first.”
“Darkness to Light” is out now.
