How Naya Rivera’s Husband Reacted to Her Abortion Revelation
In her new memoir “Sorry Not Sorry: Dreams, Mistakes, and Growing Up,” actress Naya Rivera wrote about having an abortion while shooting her show “Glee."
Naya made the decision to have a secret abortion without telling husband Ryan Dorsey first. On Tuesday, she made an appearance on “The Real” to reveal his reaction to the news when she finally found the courage to tell him. She said, “By the time we sort of reconnected and I was like, 'Gosh, there's a reason you keep coming back in my life and we keep coming back together.' And I was like, 'I have to tell you something.' You know, I put in the book, like, verbatim what he said, and I think it was the kindest and the best thing that any man could have ever said in that situation. And it just made me love him that much more, so I'm thankful for that.”
Rivera was pleasantly surprised by Dorsey's reaction, sharing, “He said, 'You know, in the short time that we dated, I wish that I could have done something to make you feel like you could have trusted me with that information because I would have loved to have been there with you.' And I was like, 'God, that's amazing. Thank you so much.'” Watch!
The pair had broken up at the time of her abortion, but eventually rekindled their romance and tied the knot in July 2014 in Cabo San Lucas, just after her split from Big Sean. In the memoir, she opened up about taking an abortion pill, writing, "It was the worst experience of my life. It was incredibly painful — your body is basically in labor with strong, frequent contractions. I was nauseous and kept going in and out of consciousness because of the pain.”
One year ago, Rivera and Dorsey welcomed their first child together, a baby boy named Josey.
