George Michael’s Cause of Death Revealed
Two months after his passing, the coroner is finally able to reveal why singer George Michael died.
One of the factors for Michael's death was dilated cardiomyopathy, which is a heart disease where the left ventricle stretches and doesn't pump blood effectively. Another reason is myocarditis, an inflammation of heart muscle, most often caused by a viral, bacterial, or fungal infection. The third cause of his death is fatty liver disease, where fat builds up in the liver.
In a statement, senior coroner Darren Salter said, “[Inquires] into the death of George Michael have been concluded and the final post mortem report received. As there is a confirmed natural cause of death, being Dilated Cardiomyopathy with Myocarditis and Fatty Liver, the investigation is being discontinued and there is no need for an inquest or any further enquiries. No further updates will be provided and the family requests the media and public respect their privacy.”
After the coroner released the cause of death, George's boyfriend Fadi Fawaz tweeted, "The Truth is out…”
Fawaz also acknowledged the recent rumors about George's death, writing, "All the nasty comments, press and 999 were very cruel and unnecessary whatsoever, Now I hope to receive some real LOVE x."
The police are also wrapping up their investigation into Michael's death, writing on Facebook, "The investigation into the circumstances of the death has now concluded and a file was passed to the Coroner. As the cause of death was natural, no further action is proposed or required. No further updates will be provided and the family requests the media and public respect their privacy.”
In December, an autopsy was performed, but the results were “inconclusive.” At the time, the police said in a statement, "The cause of death is inconclusive and further tests will now be carried out. The results of the tests are unlikely to be known for several weeks. Mr. Michael's death is still being treated as unexplained but not suspicious.”
