Teresa Giudice Spills Prison Secrets in Her Memoir and First TV Interview
Reality star Teresa Giudice is opening up about life behind bars at the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut, in her new book "Turning the Tables: From Housewife to Inmate and Back Again,” which is released today.
When the “Real Housewives of New Jersey” star entered the facility, which was the inspiration for the Netflix show “Orange Is the New Black," she was forced to strip down for a full body-cavity search to make sure she didn't have any prison contraband. She shared, "I have never felt more vulnerable in my life.”
In the book, Giudice revealed that her roommates were having nightly sex sessions. She said, "The ladies were getting it on so much that our room became known as the Boom Boom Room.” In a new interview with Amy Robach of ABC News, which airs tonight, she talked about how she tuned out the noise as much as possible. “When I first got there, I bought headphones the next day... So thank God for commissary. But I just went underneath the blanket. And we had a fan in our room. Like, this huge fan. And they would put that on every single night, so you can't hear anything.”
Speaking of sex, the 43-year-old explained how inmates were able to make sex toys with a maxi pad, tooth brush, and a rubber glove. She said in her book, "I never cared to use anything like that, but I have to say, the women in there are so creative.”
Giudice also discussed how maxi pads served many purposes in prison, including face masks, makeup removers, slippers, and cleaning rags. Teresa said, "I laughed the first time I wiped down the floor and my locker with a maxi pad. I couldn't help but think, 'If only everyone could see me now.'"
In her interview with Amy, she gave a candid look into her “horrible" living conditions. "I mean there was mold in the bathrooms. There was not running water constantly. The showers were freezing cold... I mean, the living conditions were really horrible. Like, horrible. There were some nights that we didn't even have heat ... It was — it was hell.”
Though Teresa is used to drama on her show, she avoided it as much as possible in prison. She told Amy, "Believe me... I got pointed at, and they were trying to start drama with me. But I just walked away.”
She added, "Yeah, it was nothing like being on 'The Real Housewives of New Jersey.' Let me tell you... when you go to prison, it's a whole different — there's a lot of drama. That's all there is, is drama. And I never lived with so many women in my life before. I mean, that's all they — they thrive on drama. It was crazy to me.”
