Oscar-Nominated French Actress Emmanuelle Riva Dead at 89

Acclaimed French actress Emmanuelle Riva, who was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar in 2013 for her performance in the film "Amour," died Friday in Paris at 89, THR reports.
Her agent, Anne Alvares Correa, told the AP that Riva had been in a clinic after a long illness, identified in other reports as cancer.
Along with her moving portrayal of one half of an elderly couple in "Amour" — which won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film — Riva was also closely identified with her performance in the Alain Resnais-directed classic "Hiroshima mon amour" (1959).
Riva worked steadily for 60 years. She will be seen in the upcoming "Paris Pieds Nuis" and in the final film to feature her work, "Alma," which is still in production.
France's President Hollande said of Riva in a statement that she "deeply marked" French cinema.
Riva never married and never had children.
