John Cena Speaks Out After Nikki Bella Split

John Cena and Nikki Bella called off their engagement just weeks before their wedding, and now the actor is opening up about “hardship” and “loss" on Twitter.

Cena wrote, “Hardship, loss, and humility are extremely difficult waters to navigate, but perseverance thru them builds a strength to withstand anything life throws your way.”

The couple announced the news with a bittersweet Instagram post on Nikki's account.

"After much contemplation and 6 years of being together Nikki Bella and John Cena announced today their decision to separate as a couple," the simple statement read. "While this decision was a difficult one, we continue to have a great deal of love and respect for one another. We ask that you respect our privacy during this time in our lives."

The pair had disagreed on topics like marriage and children in the past. In fact, a new teaser for the May 20 premiere of “Total Bellas” reveals that the issue of whether to start a family may have played a part in the breakup.

In the clip, Cena tells Nikki, “I would never force you not to be a mom.” Bella tells him through tears that she isn't sure she can sacrifice becoming a mother.

He responds, “I'm not sure we should go through with this.”

A source recently told People magazine that Bella is "devastated" by the split, adding, "This was supposed to be the happiest time of her life."

Desite the couple's differences, many fans were shocked by the split. The couple had been inseparable right through the release of Cena's hit film "Blockers.” They even attended WrestleMania on April 8. Cena had proposed to Bella a year ago at WrestleMania after dating since 2012.

Less than two weeks before they called it quits, "Extra's" Renee Bargh caught up with John and Nikki at the "Blockers" premiere in Hollywood, where they gushed about each other. Watch!
